THE SCIENCE
General Info
Labraix is currently reviewing and studying published evidence on the use of testosterone derivatives in dermatology in relation to cosmetic skin ageing, as discussed in the following YouTube video The effects are intended to be localised to the area of application. To date, no clinically significant or inconvenient hair growth has been reported when the product is used as prescribed, although individual responses may vary. Some published evidence suggests that minor changes in the growth of existing hair may occur over time in certain individuals. This cream will not create new hair follicles where none exist. For example, if no hair exists in an area (such as the nose), it will not cause hair to appear. Where hair already exists (such as sideburns), changes in hair characteristics such as thickness or pigmentation have been described in some studies, but outcomes cannot be guaranteed. Areas that have undergone permanent hair removal are unlikely to demonstrate noticeable changes. Patients of all genders who shave, wax or dermaplane regularly should not need to change their routine, as existing hair removal practices will continue to manage hair growth in those areas. The product is not advised for use on the scalp or where scalp conditions are present, including active hair loss.
Skin conditions
This product is not intended to treat skin conditions in the way prescription dermatological medicines such as tretinoin are used. Patients with existing acne may, in some cases, experience a worsening of acne. For this reason, the product is not prescribed for acne or any other medical skin condition. This cream is prescribed for cosmetic purposes only and is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent disease.
Effects on the whole body
Available patient data and published evidence suggest no meaningful systemic increase in testosterone levels when the product is used strictly in accordance with prescribing instructions. Educational material discussing this topic is available on Dr Abs’ YouTube channel. Individual experiences and testimonials are illustrative only and do not guarantee outcomes. While effects are intended to remain localised to the area of application, it is theoretically possible for systemic effects to occur if the product is used incorrectly. Adherence to prescribed instructions is essential.
Best routine
Use should be strictly in accordance with the prescribing clinician’s instructions. Any additional skincare devices or routines are optional and not part of the prescribed treatment. If dermarolling is undertaken, the cream should not be applied immediately afterwards. For guidance on planning a broader anti-ageing routine, you may book an online consultation clicking here.
As with any skincare product, individual results may vary. If irritation or an adverse reaction occurs, use should be stopped immediately.
